In the presented article, the author seeks to comprehend the stages of migration, based on the theory of three stages developed in Russian science, supplementing it with an analysis of the features and factors affecting migration in modern realities. Particular attention is paid to the peculiarities of migration behavior at each stage and the problems of managing resettlement processes. The author notes that they are all significant in the migration process. The preparatory stage involves several strategies of behavior and may be due to many traditionally existing and current reasons. At the second stage, moving to a new place is carried out, or moving for a certain period of time for work and returning back. The third stage is associated with adaptation to a new place: interaction with the host community, natural and climatic features of the region, socio-cultural environment at the place of arrival. Migration processes should be managed at each stage in order to reduce the negative effects of migration.
