Features of renal interstitial fibrosis morphometric assessment in rats for pharmacological investigations

Comparative morphometric analysis of induced by unilateral ureteral obstruction (UUO) interstitial fibrosis area size after treatment with Losartan at 10 mg/kg/day and 30 mg/kg/day for 9 days were performed. Significant reduction of renal interstitial fibrosis area at day 10 after UUO in 30 mg/kg/day Losartan - treated animals - in contrast to 10 mg/ kg/day Losartan-treated animals- were observed without reference to staining methods. It was shown that Masson-trichrom staining method has advantage for morphometry of fibrosis area by image analysis software package in comparison with monochromic picrosirius red staining.
