The paper discusses the issues of the establishment of visual-imaginative thinking in children with common underdevelopment of language. The formation of speech functions plays a special role in the formation of a child's psychomotor development. The overall evolution is closely connected with his intelligence and psychical development. Relevance. The defective functioning of the speech apparatus has a negative impact on the personal development of a child. This manifests itself in the difficulty of his cognition of the surrounding world, a decrease in attention and memorization, violations of the ability of logical reasoning, loss of meaning in understanding processes and phenomena, disorder of all forms of interpersonal communication, inhibition in the formulation of gaming activities. All these personal skills play a special role in shaping the overall mental development. The study is based on the review of written data and mental and educational researches on this question. The purpose of the work is a regular survey of the written data on the peculiarities of visual-figurative thinking in kids with a general retardation of speech. The methods of scientific research are based on the analysis of literary information, the synthesis of opinions. The aim of the study is to conduct a literary review and collect reliable research data on the peculiarities of the formation of visual-imaginative thinking in infants with common language retardation. Verbal disorders or language neuroses are issues and divergences of speech, as well as disturbances of verbal interaction and further associated fields, in specific, verbal motor skill. These deviations can have a significant impact on the child's mental activity. The analysis of research in the sphere of remedial pedagogy and defectology has shown that children with various speech disorders have special educational needs.
