Peculiarities of selecting and using texts when studying a foreign language remotely (using the “Professional English” course materials)

The article examines the peculiarities of selecting and subsequent processing of texts for the distance course “Professional English: development of foreign language competence in the field of professional communication”, the major “Chemical technology and nanoengineering”. Special attention is paid to the distribution of text material within the course according to the increasing complexity of texts. The complexity of the originally selected authentic texts is analyzed on the Flash index scale. The following text processing methods are shown in order to reduce their complexity: simplification - complication of vocabulary; articulation - joining the sentences; reduction - lengthening of sentences; changing the voice (active/passive); changing the number of paragraphs; complete restructuring of sentences.
