Features of applying hydroacoustic equipment in underwater archeology on the example of the survey of the Sarkel fortress excavations

The paper discusses the features of using a sidescan sonar and a parametric profilograph in addressing the tasks of underwater archeology. As examples, fragments of acoustic mosaics and profilograms obtained during the hydroacoustic survey of the excavation site of the Sarkel fortress are provided as examples. The paper describes the methodology for works performance as well as basic principles of hydroacoustic equipment operation. The features of the formation of acoustic images and the rules for their interpretation are described. As a result of a hydroacoustic survey of the seabed and subbottom layers. many anomalies were discovered. which may be the result of anthropogenic activity.
