The article deals with some aspects of checking up reliability of reporting a crime committed against journalists due to their professional activities. It is treated as a stage of preliminary investigation of such crimes. The author gives the classification of crime situations arising at the stage of preliminary investigation depending on the source of the reporting a crime. The author also considers some topical issues of setting out common and particular leads while solving these investigative situations. Then the author suggests the optimum set of investigative and other activities to effectively investigate the criminal cases of this category.
