The incidence rate and age-specific prevalence of HPV infection was studied in 368 patients with histologically verified CIN and cervical cancer. The HPV type 16 was found to be the most common type detected in 82 % of all virus-associated patients of younger age group, while HPV type 18 occurred more frequently among women of older age group. The incidence of high-risk HPV-infection correlates with severity of histological changes in the cervix. The highest incidence rates of HPV infection are observed in the age group of 60 years.
