Features of the implementation of procedural rights and obligations of the defendant in modern criminal proceedings in Russia

This paper provides a critical review of criminal procedure law in the Russian Federation and examines the views of legal experts on the rights, obligations and interests that are legally assigned to persons accused of crimes. Special attention is paid to the analysis of practical aspects of the implementation of the procedural rights of the accused at various stages of criminal proceedings. The problematic issues of ensuring a balance between the rights of the accused and the effectiveness of criminal prosecution are considered. In addition, the author suggests ways to improve the legislative framework regarding the status of participants in criminal proceedings.
