The author, basing on the materials of the State archive of the Republic of Buryatia, which recreates the history of formation and establishment of the Roman Catholic community, considers in detail the activities of Catholics in the territory of modern Buryatia. The formation and development of the Roman Catholic community in the region had its own distinctive features: the backbone of the who had been exiled to the settlement, the participants of the Polish uprisings of the nineteenth century, members of revolutionary groups, as well as qualified workers who came from Poland and Lithuania on the construction of the TRANS-Siberian railway. The majority of Catholics lived on the railway stations. To preserve national identity, culture, traditions and spiritual unity of the poles and the Lithuanians helped participate in the activities of the community: communication in the Church of common prayer, the celebration of religious holidays, the full support of the Catholic parishioners
