The article presents results of the author’s investigation of the history of forming the system of professional pedagogical education of teachers of foreign languages in Ukraine. It starts with establishing the first departments of modern foreign languages at universities at the very beginning of the XXth c. and ends at the beginning of 1960 th, when this education took shape of a system.
