The article is devoted to the problems of formation of the trade-union movement in Russia before 1917. Just in the first quarter of the XXth centure the Russian trade unions became “institutional” defenders of the rights and interests of hired workers. The author analyzes a place and a role of trade unions as one of the actors of regulation of social and labor relations in the Russian empire. A study of historical experience of the Russian trade-union movement is interesting for the analysis of modern activity of trade unions.
