The article discusses the features of structuring and setting the task of a course project on the discipline "Fundamentals of device design". Course design in this discipline is carried out in order to generalize and consolidate the knowledge, skills and abilities of students in the direction of training the aircraft motion control system in accordance with the requirements of the State Educational Standard of Higher Professional Education and the work program of the discipline to the content and level of training of specialists. The issues related to the algorithm of constructing independent work of students when performing design documentation of a general drawing are highlighted. The possibility of performing a preliminary design of an electric drive in the form of a model made in electronic form and on paper is considered. The advantage of using two methods of performing a technical project when designing.
