Features of the use of a comma in the text of a work of fiction in English

This article is devoted to the definition of the functions of the comma in the text of a work of fiction in English. The characteristic features of the comma in simple and complex sentences are highlighted, its semantic and pragmatic potential is considered. As the reasons for the presence or absence of a punctuation mark are indicated, the dependence of the statement of the comma on the grammatical structure of the sentence, the degree of its complexity, the nature of structural and semantic connections in the sentence, as well as on the intentions of the author, the dynamics of development is expressed, reveals the motives of the described events and the prosodic construction of the utterance.
