The impact of social stereotypes on conjugal relations in modern Russian families

In modern Russia, given the rising divorce rates and declining marriage and fertility rates, the institution of the family and marriage must be given special attention. In order to improve the situation, the factors that generate conflict and violence between spouses must be identified and addressed. Analysis and research into the impact of social stereotypes on conjugal relationships can help to develop a set of procedures aimed at stabilizing relationships in the family sphere. The forms of behavioural patterns in Russian families are analyzed. The results of studies conducted by domestic sociologists, which reveal the consequences of the negative impact of stereotypes on the relationship between spouses, are presented. It is summarized that the increase in conflict in the field of family and household relationships is due to the contradictions between the spouses’ stable ideas about the role of each of them in the family and the realities of life, which require a review of attitudes towards gender roles and flexibility in family relations.
