Introduction. Feeling danger (safe) is expressed in the features of a temporal orientation. In particular, it can lead to fixation on the past, present and future, or update the resource aspect of temporal modalities, when they begin to act as the means to solve urgent life problems that require the use of experience, self-regulation skills, planning goals and predicting results. Materials and Methods. The empirical study involved 250 full-time education students of Yugra State University and Kurgan State University (139 females and 111 males) aged from 18 to 22. The questionnaire "Subjective assessment of temporal orientation," the questionnaire "Causes of emotional discomfort" and the questionnaire "Temporal characteristics of personal danger-safety" were employed. Results and Discussion. Two groups of subjects were identified: feeling safe and not feeling safe. Based on the comparison and correlation analysis, differences and relationships between feeling danger (safety) and the parameters of temporal orientation, time functions and causes of emotional discomfort were established. Conclusions. The causes of emotional discomfort in subjects experiencing safety are interconnected with the "present" as a temporal modality. While those under study who do not experience safety consider discomfort in correlation with the "future." For respondents experiencing safety, the "present" and "future" modalities are resource-based, turning to them increases self-confidence and belief in their abilities, makes it possible to positively change their attitude towards themselves and other people. For those examined who do not feel safe, these temporal modalities are fixed, which reflects their dissatisfaction with the process of life, how the main life events unfold.
