Modern life cannot be imagined without information technologies, they are increasingly being introduced into our lives, helping and facilitating it. Knowledge of the skills of using information technologies in professional activity is one of the main competences of the future specialist. In studying the discipline "Information and communication technologies" for organizations of higher and (or) postgraduate education it is necessary to pay special attention in the development of practical and laboratory works to the implementation of communication with the specialty and selection of corresponding tasks, which will help the future specialist to apply information and communication technologies in his/her professional activity and to be a competitive specialist. The article provides an overview of information technologies, their environments, tools and types. The main goals and tasks in the study of discipline are listed, as examples are presented and justified tasks in discipline for the specialty "Psychology" and "Journalism and information."
