Coverage of environmental issues in the online media of Russia and Kazakhstan

The article deals with the results of a comparative and content analysis of Internet resources of domestic and foreign media covering environmental issues of industrial regions. The relevance and prospects of the issue are justified by the increasing influence of environmental content on the social well-being of the population. The results of content analysis on the leading Internet media of the Chelyabinsk region of Russia and the Republic of Kazakhstan are provided; a structural and thematic review of the environmental agenda of highly rated publications is presented; the results of an analysis of the coefficient of audience involvement in environmental materials covering the main groups of environmental problems are shown. The main groups of problems in in creating environmental content were identified; the relevance of an objective environmental agenda for at-risk regions was substantiated; the general characteristics of the press of industrial regions were systematized. The article presents specific stimulus materials found with the help of targeted search queries, on the basis of which the main patterns and contradictions in the representation of environmental materials in the media were revealed. The obtained results demonstrate the patterns followed by domestic and foreign online media resources when covering ecological issues.
