The study explores the development of hydropower resources in Eastern Siberia in the literary and visual images of the Soviet period. Through the prism of painting, graphics, posters, documentaries, fiction, journalistic and popular science literature, the construction of large hydroelectric power plants on the Angara and Yenisei rivers is considered. Due to the specifics of the material under study, the author focuses on lesserknown works and their forms in order to identify the most common points of contact and relationships, which allows them to be introduced into scientific circulation and lay the foundation for further research within this topic to identify multi-level relationships between visual and literary images. The study used the method of content analysis and the principles of iconographic analysis proposed by E. Panofsky. Particular attention is paid to the display of work on the blocking of Siberian rivers, the emergence of reservoirs and the flooding of settlements during the construction of large hydroelectric power stations. There is a change in the style and content of the works as part of the change in state policy and environmental discourse in different periods of the existence of the Soviet state - from the creative optimism of the "thaw" to disillusionment with scientific and technological progress and the eschatological sentiments of village writers and artists of the 1970s.
