From “il politichese” to English borrowings: manipulative techniques of creating ambiguity in Italian political discourse during the first and second republics

The article deals with manipulative techniques for creating ambiguity in the Italian political discourse during the First and Second Republics. The article describes the features of il politichese - a special political jargon used by politicians during the First Republic to hide their true intentions from the electorate and political competitors. Changes in the Italian political discourse in connection with the transformation of the political situation in the country in 1994 are characterized. Particular attention is paid to the growth of the use of English-language borrowings in the Italian language and media-political discourse. Examples of the use of such anglicisms in the Italian-language political discourse are given. It was revealed that some Englishisms are used to increase the authority of the author of a statement, while others are used to deliberately create ambiguity and ambiguity in a political message.
