The article characterizes the contribution of Natalia Pushkareva in the development of a new direction of study of the past, history of everyday life. The historian's place in approving the methodology and theory of this historical trend and in determining the subject and object of the research is assessed. The role of the researcher as an organizer of science, creator and permanent leader of the Russian Association of Researchers of Female History (RAIZHI) is particularly emphasized. The authors draw attention on the significance of the monograph “Women of Ancient Russia”, published 30 years ago, for the appearance of everyday life history in Russia. The diversity and breadth of the topics of women's everyday life examined by Pushkareva are outlined. The role of the researcher in studying private life, property status and forms of activity of Russian women of pre-industrial era and period of bourgeois modernization is characterized. The specifics of an extreme women's everyday life during wars and revolutions, noted by the historian, is revealed. The achievements of the researcher in the study of motherhood, sexual and sensual sphere of Russian women of different eras are noted. In Pushkareva's works, a special place is devoted to the issues of the position of women-scientists and the gender situation in Russian science both in different periods of history and at the current stage. The authors demonstrate that today, her works are located in an innovative direction based on reconstructing everyday life through the analysis of visual sources. As a scientist, Natalia Pushkareva is characterized by research observation, a high methodological culture, and an ability to choose an unexpected angle of analysis.
