The article considers the content of the problem of selecting citizens for service in the police, justifies the complexity of its resolution. The police service appeared to be a life-threatening, difficult, intellectual activity. The normative legal framework governing the process of selection for service in the Ministry of Internal Affairs was being analysed, the theoretical basis for solving the problem of improving the quality of the selection of candidates for service in the police was being considered, and systemic reasons were being justified that made it difficult to recruit police units: the command principle of the recruitment of police authorities; A decrease in the quality of the population seen as candidates for service in the Ministry of Internal Affairs; destructive media, the complexity of policing and others. The results of a specific sociological study of the problems of selecting kandidats for service in the Ministry of Internal Affairs are presented; Practical recommendations to improve the selection process for the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
