Different aspects of work of postgraduate study department of Chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute founded in 1962 are viewed in the article. Special attention is paid to the most essential and difficult problems, which graduate students and academic advisers have come across at this stage of university development. The processes taking place in the department of postgraduate study of chelyabinsk Polytechnic Institute in the beginning of the 60s of the 20th century are viewed through the context of development of the Soviet higher school in general.
