The article discusses certain norms, mainly by-laws and regulatory legal acts relating to the established procedure for clarifying by employees of internal affairs bodies (police) the circumstances associated with the unknown disappearance (absence) of people. Based on their comprehensive analysis, the author substantiates the personal forecast that the operational and official activities of the mentioned employees in the commented field, while maintaining the incoherent terminology characteristic of interdepartmental regulation, will continue to be outside the zone of optimal improvement of the latter.
