The article is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the causes of stagnation in the domestic system of training professional performers on orchestral wind instruments. The aspect of this problem is carried out on the basis of a number of scientific publications and studies. The article analyzes the state of the Russian system of training professional spiritual teachers in the context of the reform associated with the restructuring to a competence-based model and integration into the Bologna process. The author reveals the reasons for the crisis state of the Russian brass performance in general, and the system of training of brass players as an integral part of it. The crisis state of the Russian spiritual school is aggravated by the lack of a sufficient number of scientific studies aimed at finding ways to integrate the competence-oriented educational paradigm into the domestic three-stage system of professional training of spiritual teachers, which has been formed for more than 100 years along a unique trajectory. There are also no studies that justify the systematic and evolutionary transition in pedagogical science itself from a system-activity concept to a competence-oriented one, which leads to a confusion of the conceptual and terminological base, a semantic and content gap between scientific research of the "pre-competence" period and modern scientific research.
