Response of mid-latitude airglow to the initial phase of magnetic storms

We examine the response of mid-latitude 557.7 and 630 nm atomic oxygen airglow to the initial phase of magnetic storms. Presented here are the magnetic storms whose initial phase is characterized by a rather reliable detection of 630 nm emission disturbances. Correlation with the Dst index and geomagnetic field is observed. Possible sources of disturbances atmospheric emissions are discussed.
