Attitude to money of senior students who are brought up in the family and orphanage

The article is devoted to psychological component of economic competence. The relevance of the study conducted by the authors is due to the poor knowledge of the monetary relations of orphans in modern psychology. Rare studies of the economic socialization of orphaned children contain only fragmentary information about their monetary views. There exists no data on the stages of the forming monetary relations of orphans, the peculiarities of their relationship to money in modern Russian literature. During the study, there were no significant differences in the attitude towards money between children from the orphanage and children from families. At the same time, qualitative analysis has revealed the distinctive features of two samples: children from families often perceive money as a guarantee of safety; children from the orphanage are more focused on satisfying biological needs, and children from families are more focused on the needs associated with the acquisition of technical innovations, fine food and cultural leisure. The ideas about the money of children from the orphanage can be called idealistic. The frequent motive of rational monetary behavior among pupils of an orphanage is the motive for buying the necessary, but not the motive for saving. The reaction to the lack of money of children from the orphanage is calmer than of children from families. The explanation is based on the results obtained by the authors. The authors suggest recommendations for educators for forming harmonious monetary relations of senior students who are brought up in an orphanage and in a family environment.
