Based on published, unpublished and archival materials, the article discusses the reasons for the refusal of religion by pupils of the Naval Corps who entered it in 1913 and graduated in March 1918. Having considered the history of the house church of the corps, the rules of religious education, world events of 1914–1918 years, the age-related adolescent crisis, the author came to the following conclusion. Pupils who refused to believe in God and accepted the ideas of Bolshevism could not go through the teenage crisis and gain ego-identity, that is, identity with themselves, which made them believe in new revolutionary ideals that replaced their faith in God.
