The attitude of young people towards pro-environmental municipal waste separation practices

The study discusses the views of young people on the Municipal Solid Waste Separation Program launched in Krasnodar Territory in 2017. Based on statistical methods, the author identifies the possible social and psychological prerequisites and barriers to the implementation of this program. The students of Kuban State Technological University have been questioned. The survey reveals that young people have a positive attitude to the environmental reforms in the public utility sector in general. The lack of confidence of respondents in the feasibility of the program and their reluctance to pay additional charges for the new waste management system are the internal barriers to daily household waste separation. Survey results indicate gender differences in the attitude of young people to the garbage reform in Krasnodar Territory. In particular, more women than men consider the waste separation program in the context of biosphere values and regard it as a preventive measure of environmental disasters in the future.
