This article is devoted to the history of the discussion and solution of the problem of revising the language of worship by the Orthodox clergy of the Simbirsk Diocese at the beginning of the 20th century. In the course of missionary activities to educate the population of the province, the leadership of the Simbirsk Diocese has repeatedly addressed the problem of understanding and correctly perceiving the language of worship. However, church-historical research on this issue with-in the diocese at the beginning of the 20th century were not carried out. This article is an attempt to highlight the issue of revising the language of worship from the beginning of the 20th century until 1918. The results of the materials studied prove that the issue of revising the liturgical lan-guage was raised by the Orthodox clergy of the Simbirsk Diocese at missionary and general di-ocesan congresses, in the response of the diocesan bishop to the Ober-Procurator of the Holy Synod on the issue of church reforms, in reports to the Synod and on the activities of the diocese church periodicals. At the congresses held by the diocese, organizational and practical decisions were made on this issue. The proposed historical information on the revision of the liturgical lan-guage at the beginning of the 20th century within the borders of the Russian Empire can be used in general research, as well as in deciding on making or not making corrections to the liturgical language at the present time. The use of the historical information presented in this work is possi-ble in textbooks and lecture courses on the history of the Simbirsk Diocese.
