The article explores the attitude of early Christian apologists towards ancient philosophy. The writings of the most well-known apologists, including Tatian, Hermias, Tertullian, Justin Martyr, Athenagoras, Theophilus of Antioch, and others, are analyzed. Different assessments of ancient thought by the apologists are demonstrated, ranging from complete rejection to compromise. Christianity was seen by apologists as a true philosophy that provided answers to all questions. They perceived ancient philosophy as a preparation and movement towards Christianity. Therefore, even apologists who had a negative view of philosophy confidently used its language and methodology as tools in their writings.
