The article deals with the stages of building relations between Czechoslovakia and the European Union. The role of the USSR's influence on the foreign policy of Czechoslovakia and other countries of the socialist bloc is pointed out. Countries that are in the zone of influence of the USSR, having got rid of Moscow's influence, began to sharply turn their foreign policy to the west. Czechoslovakia is an example of the most successful integration, because the political and economic situation in the country were prepared for a regime change.
