The article delves into the exploration of cinematic portrayals of rural and urban lifestyles in Soviet feature films of the 1960–1980s, the importance of which is determined by the socio-historical context of the tran-sition period. The relevance of the work lies in the fact that it addresses cinema as a source of visualized ideas about the transformation of everyday life in the context of urbanization and modernization, allowing us to trace shifts in the perception of social roles, norms, and cultural guidelines in Soviet society, and its novelty lies in the use of a comparative approach to the analysis of visual and substantive techniques of cinema. The article examines in detail the plot lines demonstrating the intersections of the rural and urban worlds, as well as the ways in which directors and screenwriters formed the “recognition effect” in the audience. The subject world of the films is studied, and its significance for characterizing the heroes is revealed. Particular attention is paid to the motives for migration and the influence of technical progress on the structure of the rural community and the formation of new everyday relations. The aim of the work is to identify visual and semantic techniques through which films reflect the interaction of rural and urban cultures, recording the change in value systems and everyday practices. To achieve this goal, methods of comparative analysis, content analysis of plots, and an iconographic approach were used. The source base consisted of films, critical articles, and research results in the field of film history.
