This article presents a deep analysis of the debate between Westernizers and Slavophiles in the context of Russian philosophical, cultural, and artistic traditions. The focus is on issues of national identity, originality, and the process of Westernization of classical music culture. The paper examines the works of M. I. Glinka and P. I. Tchaikovsky as vivid examples of the national traits and originality in Russian music. It analyzes the complex of factors that contributed to shaping the national character and distinctiveness of Russian musical traditions. Despite the adoption of compositional methods and forms from Western traditions by Russian music and the existence of common roots in musical terminology, the author notes that these factors do not diminish its originality or unique sound. Russian music's development is inextricably tied to the historical context and societal life of Russians, allowing it to reflect traditional values and living conditions. Music composed by composers like Glinka and Chaikovsky represents an expression of national spirit and patriotism and is an important part of Russia's spiritual wealth and cultural legacy.
