The article studies the development of the rock stage in the USSR in the 1970s. Digital copies of the first three issues of the magazine “Roxy” from the private collection of the online museum “Russian Underground. Fragments” were used as a source base. In addition, the author turned to the works of music critics A.I. Kushnir and A.K. Troitsky. The aim of this study is to form an idea of the state of the Soviet rock scene through samizdat. In the article the author uses the following research methods: When comparing materials from state media and samizdat, the comparative method is used, examining the historical and cultural processes of the development of the underground rock scene of the 1970s, the author deduces general trends using the generalization method. In the work, the author describes the important events of the underground rock scene of the 1970s, arranging them in chronological order, using narrative and chronological research methods. Result of the study: the article reflects the state of the USSR rock scene of the late 70s through the prism of the Leningrad samizdat “Roxy”, and examines the few views of researchers who studied this issue. Theoretical significance: The study of the phenomenon of the development of domestic rock culture in the 1970s deepens the understanding of the process of formation of contradictions in the relationship between Soviet society and the state, which later became one of the factors in the disintegration of the Soviet Union. The source base used allowed the author of the article to reveal that already in the 1970s the leaders of the rock community were waiting for the opportunity to come out of the underground, defending the originality of their creativity.
