Responsibility for financial and economic violations in Russia in the XVII-XVIII centuries

During the period of the Moscow State, more or less systematic regulation of economic activity began, and above all entrepreneurship represented by the merchants of that time. A significant part of the norms of legal acts in this area determined responsibility for violations of established rules; accordingly, the legislator described the objects of the relevant offenses, which, according to modern terminology, were associated with civil, administrative, criminal, and tax liability. The article provides an overview of legal acts that regulated these social relations in the period from the mid-17th century. until the beginning of the 19th century, within which the position of the state was mainly formed (in the form of an absolute monarchy). Legal documents of a financial and economic nature, scientific works on the stated issues are analyzed, and the author’s generalizations are made.
