The fall of the Roman empire in Russian social thought of XIX century: A. I. Herzen

The paper attempts to characterize the views of Herzen on the fall of the Western Roman Empire, which in the domestic historical science has not acted as an independent subject of study. The author concludes that, taken in their totality, these views of the outstanding Russian intellectuals of the XIX century form one of the original concept of “eternal problems” of world history that has not lost their relevance till present days.
