Paleolithic Danae: a masterpiece from the 2016 excavations at Khotylevo 2

The paper is a preliminary publication of a new female figurine from the 2016excavations carried out in the section of location B at Khotylevo 2. The paper containsthe description of the appearance, the state of preservation and the archaeological contextof the find as well as provides analogues and typological characteristics. The figurinefeatures a corpulent, maybe, pregnant woman and is referred to the so called Khotylevotype of female images of Eastern Gravettian art. The figurine was found lying on the daysurface near a group of deliberately placed bones of mammoth. The archaeologicalcontext of the new figurine is similar to that of the first female statuette coming fromF. M. Zavernyaev’s excavations.
