Monument of the Buryat Buddhist culture «Mirror of wisdom»: the experience of comparison with modern social and psychological theories

The article presents a comparative analysis between the ideas of the Buryat Buddhist didactic work «Mirror of Wisdom» by a famous prerevolutionary lama-educator Erdene Khaibzun Galshiev (1855-1915) and modern social and psychological theories. It has been revealed that many of the ideas in «Mirror of Wisdom» can be expressed in terms of the behavioral and status-role theory of personality, because the manuscript provides guidelines to people of different statuses for the successful and harmonious implementation of social interactions. In addition, the reconstruction of the system of traditional Buryat Buddhist moral values (benefit and harm, truth and falsehood, merit and guilt, glory and shame, strength and weakness, past and future) was proposed in the context of a wide variety of everyday situations (winning and losing, various status-role situations), the socio-cultural dominants of the Buryat culture of the early 20th century were revealed.
