The article analyzes such a direction of commemoration of the events of the Caucasian War (1817-1864) as the erection of monuments to the commanders of the Separate Caucasian Corps. The study uses historical-genetic and retrospective methods, as well as an interdisciplinary approach. The basic stages of the state memorial policy concerning the memorialization or the oblivion of the memory of the commanders of the Separate Caucasian Corps during the period of military operations in the Caucasus in the XIX century are distinguished in the article. The author shows how the attitude of authorities and society to monuments changed depending on the political system in the country: from the glorification of the images of the commanders in the Caucasus in pre-revolutionary monumental practices, the mass destruction of monuments in the Soviet period to the actualization of the perpetuation of the memory of generals A.P. Ermolov, I.F. Paskevich, M.S. Vorontsov and A.I. Baryatinsky as symbols of the military power of the Russian Empire in the modern monumental space of the historical memory of the Caucasian War.
