The panegyric as a laudatory genre of official discourse of the French academician in seventeenth century

This article focuses on Eulogy, which is one of the genres of solemn speeches related to the official discourse in French academic environment of the early modern period. In line with the theoretical problem of the social role of language it raises the issue of new speech communication in academic environment. The Eulogy is seen as a laudatory genre of academic discourse, in which the dominant component is praise. New linguistic practices are considered to be typical of well-known writers with high credibility in academic environment in the 17th century. The author states that panegyric as a genre of high status was devoted only to the head of state - king Louis XIV on state occasions. The prospect of further research into the genres of academic discourse is planned.
