This article attempts to consider a unique kind of individual legal consciousness - the legal consciousness of a citizen. The author presented the genesis of the formation of a certain type of legal consciousness among the citizens of the Russian Federation, and also demonstrated the specific features of the scientific category under study. The general and distinctive features of the legal consciousness of a person and the legal consciousness of a citizen are announced.
