Paroxysmal states can be observed both in epilepsy and other diseases. The most frequent paroxysmal states mistaken for epilepsy are syncopes, conversion or pseudo-epileptic attacks, parasomnias, paroxysmal choreoathetosis, benign myoclonias. Wrong diagnosis of epilepsy, especially in childhood, will affect child development, his quality of life. Detailed anamnesis is the cornerstone in establishing diagnosis. Final diagnosis will depend on experience and skills of the doctor to analyze available information. The gold standard for diagnostics of difficult and pharmacoresistent patients is a video-EEG-monitoring.
