B.Pasternak's 1916 «ballade»: improvisation in search of appropriate form

Бесплатный доступ

The subject of the research is the B.Pasternak's poem "Ballade", in which the poet uses a variety of structural and stylistic devices that show his attempt to transfer outstanding characteristic features of Chopin's "Ballades" into poetry. These devices are the deliquescence and vagueness of the narrative line as well the diversity of the meter and rhythm. The experiment, carried out in the work, enables him to answer the question of the need to choose between music and poetry. Thus, Pasternak creates in poetry that combination of free improvisation and observation of the laws of composition, which establishes relations between his "Ballade" and Chopin's work.
