The study considers Immortal Regiment, a civil national movement, as a new way to preserve historical memory and investigates its dynamic development in Kuban region in 2013-2018. This local historical aspect involves the analysis of modern practices aimed at conserving historical and cultural heritage and fostering patriotism by updating the historical memory of the Great Patriotic War. Both state and citizens have done much to preserve wartime memories in recent years. The author concludes that the Immortal Regiment movement helps acquire and consolidate knowledge gained from previous generations and transfer this knowledge to their descendants. It is a kind of fight against fake history and distorted historical facts about World War II, a novel way to keep the historical memory alive, and a new form of its manifestation.
