Carleton Washburne (1889-1968) is an outstanding representative of the reformatory pedagogy of the first half of the 20th century. He developed, theoretically justified and introduced an original pedagogical system into practice of primary schools of the town of Winnetka (suburb of Chicago), which he called Winnetka Plan. The Winnetka Plan, elaborated at the height of the progressivism revolution in educational theory and practice, allowed creating a school focused on the child, enabled the opportunity of effective educational personalization and, at the same time, of the development of social competence of the students.
