The article discusses the problem of re-coding biographic material into a poetic text and suggests the analysis of lyrical texts of the 20th century from the point of view of the genre. In particular, two poems by G. Sapgir demonstrate the nature of the poetic word: when transferred into a literary text and rendered in the language of fiction, biographic events will be re-coded and receive a different contextual meaning.
