Perspective and light-shadow as symbolic forms in the novel "Resurrection of gods. Leonardo da Vinci" by D.S.Merezhkovsky

The author of the article considers the specificity of functioning of such means of fine art as perspective and light-shade in the literary work. In the novel "Resurrection of Gods. Leonardo da Vinci" (1900) by D.S.Merezhkovsky two modes of visual art are presented; they were used by the famous Italian artist Leonardo da Vinci and the Russian icon painter Eutyches Gagara. Perspective and light-shade are regarded as symbolic forms, which allow to reveal and compare the aesthetic concepts of the two artists, their views of the essence and role of art as well as the relation between art and reality.
