Macro-regions promising economic specializations as a key gap in spatial development strategy of Russian Federation

Introduction: the Spatial Development Strategy of the Russian Federation was adopted in 2019 and included the development of strategies for 12 macro-regions, which, however, did not happen. At the end of 2022, the relevance of updating the Strategy has decreased: the number of the Russian Federation regions increased under the new geopolitical conditions, and the strategic agenda focus shifted to the new economic policy of the country, considering its national interests, sovereignty, and state security.
