The article explores international economic relations with the European Union in the field of energy partnership. The European natural gas market is being analyzed: it is undergoing serious changes due to inter-fuel competition, the depletion of explored deposits and geopolitical tensions. All this creates risks for energy cooperation. It is noted that Russia's export potential creates the prospect of expanding gas cooperation, including by increasing its share in the existing market. It is concluded that in conditions of a decrease in domestic production against the backdrop of the growing demand for energy in the EU, Russia can strengthen its position in this gas market, but the increased competition and the internal policy of the European Union create risks for this.
