The article presents the literature data on the systematics and botanical nomenclature of various representatives of plants of the genus Elaeagnus, morphological and diagnostic features and ecological features of the growth of these plant species in arid areas. The data on the use of various species of the genus Elaeagnus in folk medicine and food industry of East and Central Asia, Hindustan, Transcaucasia and the Russian Federation. The fruits of the sucker are eaten both raw and dry. In the food industry, the fruits are flour, sweet berry wine and alcohol. The fruit pulp contains about 40% carbohydrates, half of which is fructose. In the agro-industrial complex, the fruits of the sucker are feed for poultry. In addition, the literature review provides information on the establishment of physiological, biological and pharmacological activity of various representatives of the genus Elaeagnus.
